Data Protection Auditing

Data Protection Act - Compliance Auditing

The 1998 Data Protection Act places a requirement on all organisations that hold personal data to comply with its security and processing strictures. Companies that fail to do so face action from the Data Protection Commissioner and, ultimately, could face legal action. Nemea Consulting has developed a service to help clients achieve and maintain compliance with the terms of the Act.

The Challenge

Understanding the complexities and requirements of the 1998 Data Protection Act, future amendments and its relation to other legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act 2000, is a specialised task.

Most organisations have too many conflicting demands on their limited resources without having to include another, especially one that requires skills and knowledge that is not transferable to other functions.

Furthermore, understanding the issue is only part of the problem. Knowing how to achieve compliance is the key skill that is needed.

How Can We Help?

Nemea Consulting will, using trained and qualified personnel, audit manual and computerised systems to assess an organisations compliance status.

The deliverable from the audit will identify the potential gaps and weaknesses in current systems and the actions required to achieve compliance in those areas that are currently failing.

Nemea Consulting also run awareness programmes to ensure that all employees are aware of the importance of the act, the consequence of failure to comply and their part in maintaining compliance.

The Benefits

  • Supports compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Measures and supports improvement within an organisation's data protection system.
  • Increases levels of awareness across management and employees.
  • Provides information for data protection system reviews.
  • Improves levels of customer and public confidence in the organisation.
